Pan Nalin's celebrated Gujarati-language film, 'Last Film Show', is embarking on its cinematic journey in France. This India-France co-production, which resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike, is slated for a widespread release across French cinemas, marking another significant milestone in its global distribution. The narrative, a poignant tribute to the magic of cinema, has already achieved considerable recognition, including being India's official submission to the 95th Academy Awards.

'Last Film Show' Captivates French Audiences with June Premiere

On April 14, 2026, the eagerly anticipated Gujarati drama "Last Film Show," under the insightful direction of Pan Nalin, confirmed its French theatrical premiere. Slated for release on June 10, the film will grace over 100 screens across France, presented by Friday Entertainment with its French title, "La Dernière Séance." This strategic distribution follows an acquisition from Studiocanal, amplifying the film's international reach. The cinematic gem, originally known as "Chhello Show," not only served as India's official submission for the 95th Academy Awards but also secured a distinguished spot on the shortlist for the International Feature Film category in 2023. Its journey has been adorned with numerous accolades, including the Golden Spike Best Picture award at Spain's Seminci Valladolid, an audience award runner-up at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, and the coveted Snow Leopard Award for best film at the Asian World Film Festival of Los Angeles. Juliette Hochart, executive vice president of library at Studiocanal, expressed immense satisfaction, stating that the company is "delighted to bring French audiences Pan Nalin's heartfelt love letter to cinema, to be experienced on the big screen across France." Deepak Bascarin, co-founder of Friday Entertainment, recounted their prompt decision to acquire distribution rights upon learning of the opportunity, captivated by the film's masterly craft and its impressive global theatrical success. Jayanthan Venkattaraman, a partner, lauded Nalin as a gifted global storyteller, confident that the emotionally resonant narrative would rekindle French audiences' love for cinema. The film intricately weaves Nalin's childhood memories from Gujarat, chronicling the journey of a young boy, Samay, portrayed by Bhavin Rabari, whose world revolves around his local cinema, a world on the brink of transformation with the advent of digital projection. Nalin, currently in Paris for the French debut, shared his excitement, noting that such news "restores your faith in cinema," especially given the challenges theatrical distribution faces. He highlighted the film's release in over 50 countries and the overwhelming positive reception from global audiences. The film is produced by Dheer Momaya of Jugaad Motion Picture, Pan Nalin of Monsoon Films, and Marc Duale of Stranger88, with Virginie Lacombe of Virginie Films and Eric Dupont of Incognito Films as co-producers. Studiocanal retains worldwide sales rights.

The journey of 'Last Film Show' from a regional gem to an internationally celebrated piece underscores the universal power of storytelling and the enduring appeal of cinema. It reminds us that authentic narratives, regardless of their origin, can transcend cultural boundaries and touch the hearts of diverse audiences. This film's success serves as an inspiration, proving that a deep passion for filmmaking, combined with a compelling story, can create a timeless work that resonates across continents and generations, reaffirming the magic of the big screen experience.
