The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is significantly enhancing its leadership structure through two pivotal executive appointments, signaling a new chapter in its remarkable expansion. These strategic hires are set to drive the league's commercial and marketing endeavors, building on recent successes like soaring viewership figures, unprecedented attendance records, and a historic turnout for Denver Summit FC's inaugural home game. The league's commitment to growth and fan engagement is underscored by these moves, as it seeks to solidify its position in the global sports landscape.

In a move poised to accelerate its market presence and fan base, the NWSL proudly announced on Wednesday the addition of Brian Kelly as its new Chief Commercial Officer and Rachel Epstein as Chief Marketing Officer. Kelly's tenure commenced immediately, while Epstein is slated to begin her role later this month. These appointments are strategically timed as the 2026 season kicks off with formidable momentum, highlighted by a notable 63,004 attendees at Denver Summit FC's inaugural match at Empower Field at Mile High, alongside other indicators of increasing popularity.

Commissioner Jessica Berman emphasized the critical nature of these hires for the NWSL's future trajectory. She lauded Kelly's and Epstein's proven track records in expanding sports franchises and fostering fan involvement, recognizing their unique qualifications to navigate the league's next phase of development. Berman expressed confidence that their expertise would be instrumental in shaping the NWSL's growth, broadening its international reach, and amplifying its cultural and commercial influence.

Brian Kelly brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as Chief Revenue Officer at Top Rank Boxing, where he was responsible for overseeing critical areas such as partnerships, sponsorships, and media rights. His impressive career also includes significant positions at prominent sports and media organizations like Bleacher Report, Turner Sports, and CBS Sports, showcasing a deep understanding of the sports business ecosystem.

Rachel Epstein joins the NWSL from ESPN, where she served as Vice President of Live Sports and Audience Expansion. Her leadership was pivotal in directing marketing campaigns for major sports properties, including the WNBA and the NWSL itself. Furthermore, Epstein played a crucial role in the initial launch of Women's Professional Soccer, demonstrating her profound insight into the women's professional sports market.

Beyond these primary appointments, the NWSL also unveiled several other significant changes within its front office. Jessica Goldstein has been named Vice President of Partnership Management and Solutions, bringing her expertise to further develop the league's collaborations. Additionally, Meg Buchan and Carlin Hudson have been promoted to Vice President roles, overseeing broadcast and strategy, respectively. These organizational enhancements reflect a comprehensive effort to strengthen the league's operational and strategic capabilities.

In their newly defined capacities, Brian Kelly will take charge of all revenue-generating activities, encompassing media rights, strategic partnerships, and licensing agreements. Concurrently, Rachel Epstein will spearhead the league's brand strategy and fan engagement initiatives, aiming to further expand the NWSL's global footprint and solidify its standing as a leading professional sports league.

The integration of these seasoned professionals into the NWSL's executive team signifies a clear strategic direction towards continued prosperity. Their collective experience in scaling sports properties, cultivating strong partnerships, and enhancing fan engagement is expected to propel the league into an even more prominent position on the international stage, fostering deeper connections with its growing audience and securing its long-term commercial viability.
