This collaboration ensures that the game allows players to either step into the shoes of established heroes or craft their own, utilizing a diverse array of powers and backgrounds that remain true to the source material. Rodrigues highlighted the team's extensive research into thousands of comics and Waid's guidance in faithfully portraying each character and their narratives within the game's framework.

A freely available quickplay PDF provides a glimpse into the game's rich narrative. One starter adventure challenges superheroes to defend Metropolis from Cyborg Superman Hank Henshaw while simultaneously thwarting Parasite's opportunistic power-siphon. Rodrigues stressed that the game intentionally steers players away from typical "murderhobo" mentalities often found in other TTRPGs, instead promoting themes prevalent in series like JLU and World's Finest. The core objective is to inspire players to prioritize saving lives and uplifting others, positioning them as symbols of hope in a world grappling with darkness.

This shift from combat-centric gameplay also facilitates a more diverse roster of heroes, allowing for characters with vastly different abilities, from Kryptonian powerhouses to martial arts experts, to coexist and contribute equally. Rodrigues cited the example of Batman and Superman, explaining that in this game, Batman's influence on the world is considered on par with Superman's raw power, underscoring that heroism isn't solely defined by strength. The game introduces a unique mechanic where the game master, dubbed the Editor, guides the story and can introduce complications using Editorial Points. However, excessive manipulation of the plot carries the risk of triggering a 'Crisis' event, which could range from alien invasions to disruptions caused by time travelers. The initial release is set to feature a core rulebook, a guide to the Justice League's base (the Watchtower), adventures tailored for various play levels, and rules for confronting a wide range of threats, from colossal monsters to vampires. With three more books already in pre-production, D20 Culture is actively engaging other comic writers to contribute adventures.
